Experiences During the University Festival

January 23,2010

This day was a very lucrative day for the paulinians. Excitement heated up; Giggles and cheers were very much present. Since it was the 1st day of the University Festival, evrybody patiently woke up early just so to start a god record in the attendance sheet of each department. What made the day special is the celebration of the mass before the opening program for Paulinians' activity. Father Andy Gumangan gave pieces of advice as regards sportsmanship and discipline to oneself. Eventhough I didn't finish the mass because of some responsibilities in the Supreme Board of Students, the homily of Father Andy was instilled in my heart. With that, I got inspired to edit some corrections in our script for the opening program.
During the program, everybody had their cheers for their bet. Intellectual nuisance and thunderous applause were heard especially during the presentation of players in each department. When I called the departments from which the players belong, I felt competition not to thye extent a clash among the departments, however a healthy Paulinian battle. Ofcourse, every player wanted to raise the banner of their school.
When Sister Remy Angela Junio, the University President finally proclaimed the opening of the opening of the University Festival '10, I saw everyone smiling and clapping.

An Encounter with a 4th Year Beed Student

Indeed, teaching is not an easy job. It does require a teacher to build a good foundation, not only of knowledge but also dexterity in the different aspects of a human person. Teachers are expected to mold a child's mind preparing him to next ladder of his life, welcoming him to real- life experiences and guiding him to the right step- a manifestation that teachers are our second parents, and where do these usually happen?- in school, a place considered to be our second haven.

If a teacher fails to deliver the discussion to his students possibility will arise as regards to students poor performance. A teacher does not only function as a mentor. A teacher is a facilitator, an evaluator and a guidance counselor.

Inspired by my chosen endeavor(to teach), I got interested to what the 4th year students do outside our school.They are having their practicum. Yes, it is a requirement for them to graduate yet, i firmly believe that this is a challenge for them, to teach or not to teach? I can see that everybody puts his/her heart into teaching during their practicum more so in their final demo.

I had the chance to interview Ms. Joy Tagalicod, a 4th year Beed student. "Ang hirap magturo ading lalo na kapag makukulit mga estudyante mo. Pero enjoy naman,"Tagalicod exclaimed. From the words which she blurted out, I can safely say that she enjoys what she's doing despite some difficulties. As a matter of fact, if we love doing something, no matter how hard it is to accomplish, still we realize that we're enjoying that thing. After her reply, I've asked another question, "what are the things that you do inside the classroom before and after the teacher discusses the lesson?", She said, she gets some strategies from the teacher, she studies how the cooperating teacher deals with her students, sometimes she checks the attendance of her students, there would be times where in the cooperating teacher is out, she can't do otherwise but to handle the class and whenever the teacher gives quizzes, she is requested to check the papers of the pupils. During her final demo, she added that she was very nervous then. However, as the discussion goes on with the help of cooperative pupils, she was able to deliver it very well. Her visual aids added beauty to the flow of the discussion. Ate Joy is good very creative. Her teaching strategies even helped the pupils understand and appreciate the topic.

With the pieces of information I gathered from Ms. Joy, I am made to understand that great responsibility lies in the hands of a teacher. I'm about to begin another episode of my life as a career woman, I don't want to fail my God-given talents. I want to be a TEACHER.

Social Networking Sites Impact

Before, I got interested with the use of friendster for me to be able to communicate with my friends and relatives abroad. It actually started during our high school. My friends influenced me to have such. As a matter of fact, they made an account for me. Later,I became a friendster addict. I enjoy uploading pictures and giving comments and messages to my friends. However, I observed that much of my time is being spent infront of the computer and this is the reason why I suffered from astigmatism. Another thing is that, I usually sleep late at night and sometimes I postpone doing my assignments because of friendster. And because of the vast increase of information explosion, people try to use their dexterity through making innovative ways to cope with the changes we are undergoing. Next to friendster is facebook.
Facebook is a social networking site that is operated and privately owned by Facebook, Incorporated. In here,users can add friends and send them messages, and update their personal profiles to inform friends about themselves. Students most especially in colleges and universities enjoy chit chatting, and guess what- their topic is about farmville. I got interested with it so I learned how to make a facebook account but I'm still using friendster. In facebook, you get the chance to chat with your friends, send them messages and comments if you wist to, upload your pictures and play games, such is farmville. This is also a way for me to build friendship with people whom I don't know personally. Also, when I have friends abroad who speak english and want to chat with me, I am trained to speak in english and develop my communication skills. Teachers should be updated to the ineterests of their students. This serves as an instrument for them to build a good foundation of camaraderie. It is not necessary that we spend much of our time in this social networking sites, what is important is we know how to prioritize things. Taking for instance playing farmville. For those who know this, Isn't it that for us to gain more money, we have to harvest on time? People who are very much in with this, get frustrated when their plants get wither. Funny, isn't it? But I understand them as I to am a farmville fan.
Social networking sites really bring benefits and disadvantages to users. To get updated, to be informed and to socialize are the main purpose of these.

INFORMATION ON BLOG

Actually, it's my first time to write something in my blog. I heard about this many times before but i'm not interested in doing so. Later did i know that this is of great help for me to write something about my experiences and any matters about my life.
Our Educational Technology subject is of great help for me to build knowledge on how to do this- it is because of our dear teacher, Mr. Alberto Calibo who guided us in doing the right procedures as to writing a blog. Educational Technology is one of the subjects that is required to students who are taking up education as their course. Students from the SED department get updated with their projects and other activities in their own school because of blog.
